Joseph Swearengen died last night at the advanced age of 82 years. He was one of the oldest settlers of this county and for the most part of life was a resident of Ripley Township. At the time of his death, he was making his home with his son, Charles, who lives west of college campus. He was a Baptist minister of the Old School; and for a long time was undertaker at Alamo. He has a son, Robert, and a daughter, Mrs. Dr. Green, at Waynetown. His wife, who died some years ago, was a sister to Newt McConnell, Mrs. Lucinda Lynn and Mrs. Jane Benefiel.
